Hello,

I have a site that for usability purposes I am considering changing a vertical list of links to a select box.

Would this hurt my rankings? What is the desired way to go for an optimized page?

Thanks.

How are you going to set up the select boxes?

There is an obvious benefit to having a text link navigation structure, as you can modify the link text and the search engine spiders are sure to follow your links.

Yes, if the select box is the only method of accessing the other pages your rankings will suffer. But there's no reason why you can't have both a selection box and a full set of text links (and don't forget a site map - they come in very handy for both usability and search engine indexing).
