Hi Everyone,

I want to register some url's and I am not sure what formats works the best for search engines like Google (just to name one :-)).

I have read that url's with keywords in it do pretty well and that it would be better to register for example www.keyword1-keyword2.com than www.keyword1keyword2.com

Can anyone shed a light on this matter and tell me your own experience?

Thanks very much!

Chris

Hi Crizzie and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

As far as google is concern their is no difference.

The hyphen is not read my googlebot so it really come down to how you want your domain to appear the potential visitors.

Without hyphen is generally easier to remember, if the running together of keywords makes sense.

webmasterworld.com is easier than webmaster-world.com

However, I lost a very profitable client once simply because I did not understand the run together URL.

I thought it was SuresHotDispensing when actually it was SureShotDispensing. The 30-page document (capitalizing the Keywords 50 times over) forwarded to the client sealed my fate.

Mind you -- I was pretty stupid at the time. ;)

Whatever you decide - consider long-term branding of the domain itself - if it doesn't make sense now, more often than not it will be worse later.
