We paid for a search engine inclusion (in sept this year) that powers a network of search engines. We were coming up very highly in the rankings for over a month then suddenly disappeared totally from the searches. From being found at number 1, 2 or 3 position to not even existing in the rankings at all. Under two search terms we could still be found (so our website was available if spidered), but from all others we totally disappeared.

The search engine in question is manually putting us back in but only after a lot of phone calls.

The forunate thing is that I had several screen dumps of our listing being found under certain key search words, so they were forced to recognise that something had happened. Our webhosting services has confirmed that there were no outages in the time period that we may have been spidered.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could have happened? Just getting a lot of "don't knows" "thats strange" from the search engine company itself.

Hey Old Surfer, welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Would you care to elaborate what search engine you're referring to?

The answer to the question will vary depending on what search engine you're talking about.
