I admit it, I like to pick on RocketLinks every now and then. Has anyone seen their main page lately? No? (wonder why -can't imagine). What a mess! Look at all those 'Featured' items.

Anyone getting any traffic from them?

Traffic? It's a path from their ad department to my bank. There are our #1 advertiser for the last 6months. We've served close to 3million ads for them since april 1.

You are going to miss 'em when they're gone.

I bit and bought a placement on Rocketlinks 6 months ago
and have gotten one hit since. I call it "Rocketstinks".

I am with you Lizzie -- Rocketlinks sucks. They send me only about 7 visitors a week. I put $25 bucks into an account I can't even remember how long ago and it's only down to $20.38. It was at least 3 months ago.

Brett-- Are you saying that you are sending them traffic from their ads on your site or you are receiving traffic from them?

I don't know where they get people to their site from but they must not be in any of my target markets. Hopefully that will change sometime soon....

I am displaying banner ads for them. They have bought millions upon millions of banners through Flycast and Burst. The only downside is that they have the best performing banners on the net - nobody comes close to the click through ratio these guys have been doing. 30-1, 40-1, 50-1 is not uncommon (that is outstanding for this day and age).

Well, at least you've provided a bit of consolation to lizzie and metaman --RocketLinks did spend the money trying to get traffic.

Brett-very interesting! Why do they get so many click throughs?

Rocketlinks hasn't let us down in a very competitive vertical. The bid price is up there for keywords, but nowhere what it costs at goto....

I think it all comes down to how competitive your target keywords are, as that is relevant to the number of searches web wide....

If you are in a "niche" vertical, your money would be better spent at either FindWhat or Kanoodle, as both are supplying results for MetaCrawler (At least currently... :) )

Brett, would you mind pointing me in the direction of some of those banners you mention? Those are crazy conversion rates and I'd love to take a look at them.

We just finished rocket links runs on both flycast and burst. I didn't keep any of the banners. You'll see them if you surf enough. They are the ones "click here to make this go away", and "do you click on banner ads". All trick ads.

They sent out an email to active accounts about three weeks ago? Didn't pay much attention, but looks like their investors are forcing them to shift focus, to something that may produce better profitability....

They have also ceased RON ads this month. They still have some targeted ads, but after this many months of RON's, they know which sites are performing.

I'm thinking I should go ahead and dust off a slab in the dotcommorgue for Bay9.

I began to laugh out loud when I saw the new Rocketlinks Bay9 website. I can't imagine who actually uses their site.
