Hi, I'm new to this whole business, and I have a question for you website promotion experts. My site is an asp, database driven, site that features images. Since most spiders can't spider and index my dynamic pages, which includes my photo names, and my IP provider will not allow any scripting or Apache code that takes the special charaters out of the URL's (for security reasons), I read that an approach was to create a html page that just lists the content from the database. So, I had my developer do that, a simple page with two columns, "Image Title" and "Image Keywords", which is more for the spiders than the customers. But now that it's up, I'm nervous that the search engines will read the keywords as spam. Should I take those out, and just list the "Image Titles"? Any other creative solutions out there to the dynamic url problem?

Alliee,

Basically, all you are doing is creating a static sitemap for your website, which will act as a roadmap for any search engine robots or spiders as the make their way through your website. This is a perfectly fine thing to do.

I would take out the keywords section within this page, and also make sure that the link text of each respective link is correct. For example, if you are linking to a page from the sitemap that targets the keyword "photo 1", it is a good idea to have the link text read "photo 1".

Also, I would link to the sitemap from the homepage, and possibly the footer of each page. It depends how the website structure is set-up.

A good and cheap way to make Sitemaps is Xtreem Sitemap Generator ~200$. When you created all these sites you can easily index and reindex your site an build a static, search engine friendly sitemap. But, what about MODRewrite? Isn't this a chance for your website to be spidered?
