I would like to ask if anyone knows if numbers combined with keywords in the domain have any effect in search engines. Would www.1widgets.com rank higher than www.widgets.com? I am mainly consered with yahoo and google.

I work for a company that has several domains with numbers in them, (along side a dozen others without numbers), and I don't see any benefit at all to having numbers in the URL.

Our best performing URL's consist of:
www.keyword-keyword-keyword.com

KevinC, the numbers in the URLs had an effect on Directory listings like Yahoo!...not so much the search engines.

ya I was more concerned with yahoo any way, I should have been more clear, but I was wondering if it would be of any disadvantage using it for other engines also?

The domain name alone shouldn't cause any problem for search engines.

Yahoo! alpha TITLE spam

There is a category that interests me and the first results begin with:

The only real concern that I would have is how the domain might appear to some of your visitors/potential customers...it's a judgement call, but it's your visitor's "judgement" that you must try to call.

I think yahoo! just changed the numerical character "edge" in their listings, saw some sites drop down a few days ago.
