I am away from my machine, visiting my brother for the weekend.
I was APPALLED that when going to Google to check on a client's Adwords Select account... GATOR popped up an ad to drive me to Gator to buy advertising. This was at the LOGIN page of Google. Gator DARES to popup ads on Google??
I thought they were backing down... stepping on Google is probably a bad thing.
I think I am in shock... damn reptile...

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation, but if a Gator ad popped while you were at Google, I think that would be an indication that your computer is infected with Gator software.

I hope all large corporations with money go kill that gator. Us small mom and pops can't do it. So we need the large corps to stand up for us. I hope Google goes postal with their lawyers on them.

It's just gator - it can popup on any site where the users machine is infected.

Agreed. It sounds like Gator software on the computer and [big]NOT[/big] Google. Lavasoft do a program called Ad-ware which you can download which will remove the offending files from you machine.

Gator's been ordered by a job to stop some of this behavior:
[news.com.com...] .

"A federal judge on Friday ordered software company Gator to temporarily stop displaying pop-up advertising over Web publishers' pages without their permission."

This doesn't apply to all sites, though -- just the ones which sued Gator.

Yes, WebG, I understand it is Gator software on his machine.

I used the machine for over an hour, and the ONLY page where the damn reptile popped up was at the Google Adwords login page.

I could not replicate it, and did not have time to go cookie hunting, so I assume Gatorized ads only popup once per page/session based on a cookie.

The lack of Gator ads on othe pages I visited can't be explained by one time "popup" cookies his subject area is entirely different from mine, we don't go to any of the same pages.

Does anyone know what triggers the popup? I was not doing a search - I know how to get to Google. And I know Google does not do popups.

My guess is that the Gator is "trained" for attacking certain advantageous domains, in addition to just throwing ads at basic searches. If this is the case, Google should get on it.
