Can anyone tell me if I have the correct understanding for a vertically themed site linking structure? Is it true that it helps get your site crawled and ranking well by the search engines?

Does the structure start with the general subject matter at the top and gradually work its way down to a specific info about the subject?

Here are some basic structures I though of:

1.

Website Promotion
^ ^
¦ ¦
v v
Search Engine Directories
^ ^
¦ ¦
v v
Google Yahoo!

2.

Website Promotion
^ ^
¦ ¦
v v
Search Engine<->Directories
^ ^
¦ ¦
v v
Google Yahoo!

3.

Website Promotion
^ ^
¦ ¦
v v
Search Engine<->Directories
^ ^
¦ ¦
v v
Google <-> Yahoo!

Of the three examples, which one do you think has the best linking from the point of view of the search engines and why?

^
¦
v, and <-> are two way links between pages.
