I need a bit of advice. I have a client who wants to change from one ISP to another. She is concerned that this might have a detrimental effect on her search engine ranking. Is there any danger of this happening?

She plans to keep the same domain name etc. but just move from one host to another.

The transition period between the move and the dns updating for the ip address has often cought people off guard as the spiders came through to the old ip address and cached the old content. 404's, Old content and whatnot.

Thanks for the heads up. I presume from what you say that the danger exists only for a brief period, perhaps a couple of days? And that there is a chance that an important spider might come along during that short period? But that it would be unlikely to be more than one or two spiders?
