I'm new to this game. Our website designer proposes using animated gifs on a new website. Do search engines like these and what is the general advice in using them with reference to search engines?

Like all images search engines will only read the alt tags. There is no difference between animated and non-animated gif as far as search engines are concerned.

Jane, just make sure he has lots of text for the search engine spiders to compensate for his fancy spinning gifs :)
