php scripts for password protected areas

Would appreciate any recommmendations for php scripts that use email and password with usual "forgot your password' and "reset your password" features.

I want to allow user to access database for specific lists or preferences that they have saved.

Have you thought about writing your own little login function? From a learning perspective it could teach you a few things. Just a thought.

Look under the PHP section of HotScripts or look in Zend's library of codes.
