Like to check a username to see if they are available to chat? Anyone done this with php and ICQ,AIM, Yahoo or MSN?

Also, what happened to the searching of this web site?

I believe I seen an open source project on IM once. Have you searched sourceforge, freshmeat, or some of the other open source sites?

we did some stuff with msn for a while but it became too much of a hassle and we dropped it.

We didn't use any premade scripts, can't remember where we found the docs though, sry.

I've seen and ever once or twice used a Java based AIM client. It can be done I'm sure for all major services. It would be very useful indeed though for the same reason I won't publically make yahoo chats available on my site is the same reason you might double think using IM clients on a site (except for your personal usage)...cross domain usage of passwords. I don't think many people would trust most sites that said they needed your password for an instant messenger.

The idea might work *if* you could somehow link each of the im clients to a website. Though I think the im clients would probally need to be hacked. I'm no programmer though.

*Edit ~ I disable Java and find no use for it. It's the only secuirty issue I've had with Firefox (via viruses).
