Simple content management system

We are a UK school, we have been approached by a number of companies to produce a school website. Obviously were intrested in what they have to offer, but im sure there loads of open source php content managment systems for virtually free?

this is an example they showed us <snipped specifics>
its not particularly great site. ive had a brief look at [opensourcecms.com...] and it lists loads but can anyone recommened anything that is comparable?

Typo3 is a very good free open source php cms.

ive heardt this is a little tricky to use for the first time user?

Also do you know of a script or anyway i can fetch content from another site, perhaps lastest virus updates from symantec?

Speaking of CMS, I think about web authoring softwares like Dreamweaver and Contribute. I went to a CMS demo before and the one I was shown worked pretty much the same like DW and Contribute. A user can create web pages, change font colors, make a table and etc. by clicking on icons and without seeing any raw codes. Then the created page goes into a queue waiting for the admin to approve to go live.

Besides the queuing feature, Dreamweaver and Contribute have those other features any CMS most likely offers. So what's the point of haveing a CMS? What are other reasons/benefits/advantages of having a CMS?

i supposse one pro for cms is the Open source feature! and msotly the fact thats its free?!

ive been reading a lot of posts on CMS and it would seem that typo is the best for wot i need, wot i dont understand is how u put together a site using this software? isnt it just for bloggers?
