Installation Problem of Phpbb2 forum on the root folder

Hi every 1,
I just decided to start a forum so decided to install phpbb2 forum software which is provided by my host. I am unable to install the forum on the root folder inspite of trying many times many different things . I have tried the following things :
1)When i tried to install for the 1st time i got the error something like public_html already created .

2)Then i deleted public_html and then tried to install and the 1st two steps proceeded fine but got an error on the 3rd step :

"sh: line 1: /home2/vaibhav/public_html/fantastico_fileslist.txt: No such file or directory cp: copying multiple files, but last argument `/home2/vaibhav/public_html' is not a directory Try `cp --help' for more information. chmod: failed to get attributes of `/home2/vaibhav/public_html': No such file or directory

1) File: /home2/vaibhav/public_html/config.php [ERROR! ]
2) File: /home2/vaibhav/public_html/data.sql [ERROR! ]
sh: line 1: /home2/vaibhav/public_html/data.sql: No such file or directory

So i am in a fix how to proceed.
Ill be really thankful to any one who can provide help
NOTE : i am able to install on a subdirectory without any problem but the problem comes while i try to install on the root .

Now when i logger on to fantastico in my control pannel got the foll msg :

May be of help to you:

Please install it first localhost. Use same db_name/username/password ( as online ) and install MySQL database localhost; use PHPMyAdmin.

Then upload the forum; export/import db. Now, you need to go to administration section and make changes about host address/path etc.
