Just a heads up to everyone, PHP.Net [php.net] have announced the immediate release of PHP 5.04 and 4.3.11.

For changes in PHP 5.0.4 since PHP 5.0.3: PHP 5 Changelog [php.net]
For changes in PHP 4.3.11 since PHP 4.3.10: PHP 4 Changelog [php.net]

All Users of PHP are strongly encouraged to upgrade to one of these releases as soon as possible.

You know, I could never figure out why these announcements weren't showing up on my PHP tab when others were seeing it. php.net had set a COUNTRY cookie and once I got rid of it, full announcements show up on my page now.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up, wruk999.

Thanks wruk999, I have just upgraded my local server from 4.3.10 to 5.0.4 so I can play around with the new class functions I`ve just been reading up on in the latest issue of 'PHP & MYSQL WEB DEVELOPMENT' by Luke Welling & Laura Thomson.

Although, as most hosts seem reluctant to make the switch to PHP5.0, I doubt its something I will use in any of my scripts at the moment.

mine is always hard cached and I sometimes forget to ctrl+refresh when i first arrive in the morning.

looks like 4.3.11 will be going in, enough bugs that relate to functions I use often.

thx wruk

I was going to start a thread in that one vicinity

The more I think about it the more I am wondering

I have redone my applications to works with PHP5
And still have quite a hard time understanding 100% the new functions “how to” but PHP5 offers much more and I am very happy to only dev in 5 and learn more about it each day
It seems that PHP is with extensive OOP, UML and Factory interface new level aiming at possibly offering within the coming years a high language alternative (C++) not for tomorrow but...

Anyways here is my concern, not a personal one but a general one.
For example I host on servers that will all run PHP5 by end of April however mine is set to PHP5 since almost 2 months
I host my clients on those servers and have redone the same readiness for those clients not on PHP5 yet, so I will be making a soft shift.
But many coders are not yet prepared
And as you know it is a real hardship for an ISP to run both flavors

Considering some coders no readiness state, the fact that 4 and 5 cannot really cohabitate
How will the PHP5 future shape?
There are on the web many sites that have been never updated
How that massive amount of non-readiness will translate?
