1) Him recieve that number via email securely
2) Write the number to a file or database to be retrieved and deleted later when he "checks for new orders"
3) A combination of the two. Possibly splitting the # into two parts, storing one half via SSL and emailing the other. This way he could go to the site, and only have to collect 1/2 of the original #. Possibly increasing security?
He isn't dealing with thousands of customers either. This is a very limited customer base, so... Any ideas on the above, or new options? He wants to stick to the merchant account, so 3rd party processors are out. He asked specifically to be the one to enter the number into his little machine. (I think it makes him feel important!)
Any help greatly is appreciated!

What he needs is a real ecommerce solution else you'll spend a lot of time re-inventing the wheel. Even when you store the credit card online via SSL, it has to be encrypted (credit card company and state regulations), then decrypted by the site owner and downloaded via SSL. All ecommerce solutions deal with this situation, and some come pre-installed free with a web hosting account.
Thank's for your post. I am extremely new to this, so... I know that his host wants $$$ to do their ecommerce solutions. Which MIGHT be o.k. But does he then get the credit card # from they ecommerce vendor, or how does that work?
He doesn't need a shopping cart (which is what the ecommerce solution through his host provides), just a way to get the # so he can punch his little buttons on the little machine he likes so well...
Thanks again for your reply!
