I've got two already and they've helped familiarize me a little bit. I have PHP for dummies and PHP cookbook, but I really need something more. I have no programming knowledge so this is very challenging to me, but I still think I can learn what I want to do. I know html and have done some things in php, but I want to have a better understanding. I would like to understand creating and working with databases and at this point I am really not there. Any book recommendations for beginners?

I wholeheartedly recommend 'Programming PHP' from O'Reilly

Programming PHP

That is a great book and probably the one I use most for reference. Co-written by PHP`s creator Rasmus Lerdorf. The syntax is a little out of date now though, so you would be better off picking up something like 'PHP & MySQL WEB DEVELOPMENT' by Laura Thomson and Luke Welling. Great book and issue 3 covers all the new syntax for PHP5.0.
