simple calendar from one date to now

I have been looking around for documentation on
date(),generate_calendar();

I would like to create a simple calendar from a past static date to present day , the present month being first on the page

IE

January 2005
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 etc.....

December 2004
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 etc....

Down to the Static date I specify in the code.
IE. March 12, 2004

Any Help would be appreciated
