I am at the start of my leaning curve with dynamic pages, although i will be trying to build the pages in dreamweaver to start with i have been advised to install php and mysql on my home pc to test the pages with, I have found a site that says to install dev5beta3.exe and install PHP, Apache and MySql together with phpMyAdmin with one click, as i am totally new to this i would like to know if this can upset the running of any other programs installed or is it just a case of install it run though the set up and away i go.

though I've heard some security issues in phpdev, i don't think it would stir anything. if you are unsure of it you might wanna try easyphp. then again, dev5 bundles extras that are not found in easyphp. here are the links.

phpdev5 - [firepages.com.au...]
easyphp - [easyphp.org...]

Help!
I have downloaded and installed this, but what now, if i open up a php page in I.E all it has is includes but these dont work, am i meant to configure it or something, I am just totally lost with what i am meant to do to get this working, can anyone point me in the right direction.
I have like a control panel, if i click the mysql button it just gives me a box with ip info ect, if i click the php button then click the configure button it tells me it is already started, how do i make this run a php page, if i go to the website that i downloaded it from it presumes you know what your doing and experienced with it, short of giving up my job and going to uni for 5 years how do i get the info i need.
Any help would be great.

Hi meanweaver,

Did you go with phpdev? What do you get with [localhost...] as your address?

lol.. yup, support is very limited coz the products are free.
have u installed phpdev or easyphp? from what you sound, I think it's phpdev. In order to intepret php you need to run a server. make sure you've started apache and it's running properly. then you could access your site using [localhost...] or [127.0.0.1...]
remember to put all your php files in the server root folder "www" in apache.

btw, you might get some good help here along the way [firepages.com.au...]

You say make sure you've started apache and it's running properly. Is apache built in to phpdev5 or do i have to install this also, If i want to view the php pages do i have to go into my programs folder find the apaches folder and just drop them in there or is there more to it than that, I'm starting to think i might be more out of my depth here then i realized, at work right now but will check out the link when i get in tonight.
Thanks for all advice so far.
