Hi All,
On a phpbb forum,
as a newbie i wondered how i got so many posts and bots registering...
I got tired of blocking/moderating them .. i disallowed posting ...
I implemented hacks to stop these bots , like captcha....

Eventually i checked my results on search engines.
I also posted a complaint to one of the major search engines.

I disabled the forum ...

but still when i search the site with the sitename + adult keywords

i get the following results and many others as well ..

Previous Topic - British Motor Club Tech Talk
    Reply to Topic - HACKED BY_ÝK4Z* Turkish-MusLim Hacker`s www
    HACKED BY POLTERGEISTH4CKER FROM NETHERLANDS
TILT MEMBERS RULE! - Print Page
<h1>HacKed-by-ARezZ0 - ho gayi hai mohabba
    [ ~ ] HaCKeD &#1071;y YAKAMOZ & Osmanli-Tr.oRg [ ~ ] -
    últimos mensajes de: attaincchomeothvmg
    id - Læs tråd

I seek a powerful yet easy solution to remove these results which don't really represent my site....

Thanks,
Regards.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, migandhi.

Are the search engine results showing that data or is it your web site pages that are showing the unwanted content? If it is the latter, you need to clean up the pages but make sure you figure out how the site was hacked in the first place and patch it.

You need a script that asks the forum registrant to answer a question. Do not use the stock question that comes with the script. Open up the script in notepad or any other text editor and change the question and answer to something else that is unique. This will stop virtually all robots. It's powerful and easy to alter and install.

Captcha is not as good as a unique answer/question challenge, as long as you edit the stock answer/question and create your own. The above method works great. Also, you may want to consider removing the form field for entering a website URL from the registration area.

Afterward, the only thing left to contend with are manual spammers but once you start banning IPs you will see those go down as well.

the results are just ghost links, the content is not on my site.. although the links once may have been posted as
<a href="link to some site"> <img src="some content" /> </a> on my site by these BOT s....
i normally moderated and deleted/disallowed what BOT s had posted .. but till then the crawlers would have indexed these links .. putting me at a disadvantage... as cached content on search engines remains available... for so long as any one clicks the link or reuses it..

i used to moderate delete/disallow content posted by BOT s....
fending off these BOT s was becoming impossible, so i stopped hosting the forum... i don't know from where these BOT s originated ....
but they keep scrapping the content on other forums that are hacked as well.. i suspect BOTNET involvement... as i would call it a BOTNET attack...
that is how the site still gets linked to adult-keywords which i would'nt allow..
