Login Platform

looking for a open source user authentication platform

Hi everybody!

I have to start a project for a new CMS and I don't feel like coding a new user authentication script, because I know this code had been written thousands of time. So I wonder, is there a CMS which only performs user authentication/administration? I've googled and I found openID but it's kind of hard to install and use, especially if i don't have direct access to my server. I'd need something like PHPBB login...

Perhaps you can use some php framework like symfony [symfony-project.org...]
