This is something that I'm interested in doing for a music-based website.

Basically, I've created a website to promote my music, but I'm interested in setting up a community messageboard for the benefit of other unsigned artists.

How difficult is it to set this up?

I haven't yet got a domain with the relevant features installed (which I can do easily enough). But I've seen a lot of books on the subject, but with there being so many, it's difficult to know which to buy. One that's been released recently is "PHP 5 and MySQL Bible".

However, I was just wondering if any of you guys had done something similar to this before and, if so, how easy was it and how successful were you?

Thanks for your time.....

The easiest approach is to use a free (like phpBB) or commercial forum. You can be up an running very quickly. You might check the Forum Community Building [webmasterworld.com] topic for ideas on how to start up and grow your forum. Good luck!
