geo ip address and php

hi i want to in php find out where my visitor is based on their ip.

i really just want to know if they are in the USA or not? anyone got any good resources where i can study up on this?

There is a free db available from maxmind, but you only get country-wide resolution with the free service. I use the paid db down to city. Can't vouch for it's accuracy, but the 80-85% is ok for certain uses.

There are also paid db's available from Geobytes and IP2location.
