GeoIP Lookups & Speed

I just installed MaxMind's GeoIP City (lite) on my site. To me, there is no speed decrease in page loads, but say my server hits a bunch of traffic at once - will having the city lookups impact performance?

Has anybody had any memory issues using this way of identifying their users?

I am using the .dat lookup, not the sql version.

It should add some overhead but I doubt it's going to add much. You can certainly expect it but I doubt it will be humanly noticable. If you are real curious about it do some benchmarking on it and see how it performs
