Recommend a search script?

preferably with mysql backend

I'm trying to find a good search script for my site that's a mix of static pages and dynamic pages(needs to spider not scan a filesystem).

I've tried PHPdig and got it working up to the part where I try to get a search box in my main template.. I end up with a blank page or some error.

So I've looked around and can't really find any other alternatives that use MySQL and was hoping someone knew of one.

There was one that I wanted to try mngosomethingorother but it was perl and required command line to install I think so no go.

I highly recommend one called "Heathco Search"

I use it on a site with over 5000 pages and it's a good quick indexed site search with its own spider and admin toolbox. Easy to customize, too.

Heathco search uses PHP and MySQL. Google "heathco search" to find it.

Anything running on your server that spiders your site will probably need the command-line to install. For one thing, you have to set up a cron job to trigger the spidering.

We use ht://Dig [htdig.org] for this kind of thing but it's not the easiest to set up for a newbie.

Heathco doesn't require any command-line stuff. You just copy the files into a directory on your server. You have to edit one config file with your database DSN and other info, and then it's ready to go. It even creates all the required database tables.

You could cronjob the spider, but I choose to use the admin toolbox instead. You just go to the admin page - I do it before leaving the office every Friday - click a button, and off it goes.

Digital Point has a great search script. They have a search tool that requires a free google API and you can do. You can format it to fit your website and it is written in php.
