I found several entries in my php clicks counter that are not from my site. I have links to external sites like this

http://www.example.com/red/clicks_counter.php?http://www.example2.com

When users clicks my file clicks/counter-data.txt
generates a linke like:

[example2.com...] XX (where XX is number of clicks)

What I see is tons of entries like
[nameofaspamsite...] number of clicks

Is that any kind of abuse? How to stop that? I can't almost see my real urls between that ton of garbage in my log.

you could look through your apache logs to see if they have been requesting that file directly

easy enough to call your script and inject a url

What for? What's the benefit or purpose on doing such a thing?

what's the use of log spamming? I imagine it would be the same goal

I can't really see the purpose unless they were trying to wipe tracks from something

go through a bunch of redirects for phishing or some such
