Newbie Problem with PHP

php problem opening index file

Hi, i download a new template in PHP format. I try to open it in dreamweaver (the index file).

All i get is "file not found"?

I have tried with several different index files, not just one..

I am a total newbie to php. Is the index page used like in html to open the template?

It depends on the templating system which file you want to edit. So the index file opens correctly in dreamweaver just the output from the index file is file not found?
