Good evening.

I wanted to follow up on this post, but it is too old:
[webmasterworld.com...]

My server recently was upgraded to a Small Business account, and the code suggested by lammert no longer works. I’m thinking that the upgrade somehow affected the code, but it could be just coincidence. I don’t know for certain since I’m not too savvy on this stuff.

Can anyone suggest what I can do? I would still like to ban this person who runs a competing website.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I would still like to ban this person who runs a competing website.

Not possible.

He can access your site using any proxy IP address, there are thousands, or one of the many CGI proxy web sites, again, there are thousands.

You will never ever stop him no matter how hard you try.

Can anyone suggest what I can do?

Stop worrying about it unless you think he's stealing from you and if that's the case there are ways to set the guy up to trap himself.

Are we talking content only site, products or what?

Hi, Bill.

He has used anonymous proxy servers, and I’m able to identify the IP address of those servers, and add them to my list. I really don’t mind piling on the addresses.

Lammert’s suggestion worked excellently until just recently. The code just stopped working all together.

My site is news, pictures, videos, etc. He relies on my site to obtain news, which steals traffic from my site. I am not selling anything, but still. I put a lot of money and time into it. I would like optimal visits to my site as possible.

His visiting my site is not helping me achieve my goal.

Thank you.

His visiting my site is not helping me achieve my goal.

Chasing an endless amount of proxy IPs also isn't helping achieve your goal because the content is already stolen by the time you've blocked the IP and he'll move on to the next IP and the list is endless so you're always chasing the dogs tail never catching the dog in the process.

I prefer permanent solutions to this kind of problem.

Put a poison pill story on your site, put poison pill keywords in the text that uniquely identify it to your site, put watermarks in the pictures and videos, if he's stealing them you can use the DMCA to knock his site offline and suspend it in the search engine every time he steals something.

He will eventually stop stealing from you if every time he does you file a new complaint and POOF! he's offline again.

Would someone else please explain why the code lammert provided in the older thread no longer works?

Thank you.
