Hi, i'm interested in compiling an online list of free api's for php and wondering if anybody has a good list or link to directory of good api's.

ive found a few interesting ones like the online image editing and also been using the ebay and yahoo answers api's but i'd really like to compile a good list for using in future projects.

Perhaps we could compile a list here? Anyway, much appreciate any good api's you have used or know of. (free only) Thanks.

There are many APIs available out there for many different applications. Do some research and find the ones that are most used. I'm sure that you'll find that these are from the big boys like Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc... I believe there are a few books you can find on the subject of APIs with PHP, as well, that you might want to take a look at.

Thanks for that, i'll have a look for the books. Had already researched google but finding an actual list of api's or directory was unsuccesful.

Still be interested in the smaller niche type of api's if anybody cares to share.

Actually i have found one called apifinder but still interested in any more people have that are free. I just want to add some extra content to a site while keeping it interesting.

After further digging ive found some great directories of really useful free apis at apifinder and programmableweb

the freebase api sounds really interesting and also gives access to wikipedia articles
