Hi,

I'm no PHP expert, but wondering how hard is it to get wikipedia's CMS running? Does it require a dedicated server?

If you are talking about Media Wiki then it's very easy and you don't need a dedicated server.I have a Apache server with PHP and MySQL on my Windows XP PC and i have no problems running it.Media Wiki is free so here's a link to download it:
[mediawiki.org ] The project website
[mediawiki.org ] Download page

Yes Media wiki is what I was referring too.

How come there isn't a huge following of this CMS? Is it to 'enterprisey' that most people are turned off from it? (meaning it is hard to configure and not worth the effort for smaller scaled sites).

When i installed it it was using about 1mb data from the MySQL DB.I don't think it doesn't have a huge following because I've seen alot of wikis using it.Actually the most used wikis according to me are Media Wiki and the light Doku Wiki. It's the same as making a post in Wikipedia. As i've seen it doesn't have a dedicated admin panel. On installation everyone can register and modify pages(including the main page until you lock it).Translations are very easy.I'm using the Bulgarian translation and installing it was a breeze.

It loads a bit slow on my server on localhost, but this isn't a dedicated server after all.
