I am a novice to MySQL and PHP and I am finding it hard to find a great tutorial. Any links would be great, but any books would be very useful too.

There are a few good threads about php & mysql in the PHP Library [webmasterworld.com]

The most recommended book around here is

PHP and MySQL Web Development
by Luke Welling, Laura Thomson

Have you checked out the OnLAMP section at the O'Reilly web site? I particularly got a lot out of John Coggeshall's tutorials [onlamp.com]. For more advanced stuff the Zend website [zend.com] has a lot.

Your best bet is to get a project, dig in and reference the manual on php.net (and of course stick around here on WW).

Devshed has some intro tutorials.

The MySQL documentation has one too I think, but you probably want to skip the stuff about administering a server.

Go to your local Barnes and Noble and buy PHP Fast & Easy. It has everything you need to know for PHP/MySQL Web Development...
