a couple weeks old but I wondered if anyone had seen this

The Eclipse Foundation today announced the availability of the 1.0 release of the Eclipse PHP Development Tools (PDT) project. Eclipse PDT is a set of tools and frameworks that enhance the productivity of developers using PHP, a popular, general-purpose dynamic language that is especially suited for development of web applications and web services. This is the first Eclipse project that targets the large PHP developer community.

the tools are here

I was browsing around a bit trying to understand what it can do for any devloper and came across this:

The main components in this project are: Editor (syntax highlighting, code assist and code folding), Inspection (file / project outline and PHP explorer view) and Debug (PHP script and web page methods).

Anybody tried it yet?

Thanksk for that jatar. I saw that awhile back, too, but forgot about it until you mentioned it. Maybe when I get a chance I'll take a look at it and experiment with it. Sounds interesting, anyway :)

I've been using Eclipse exclusively now and won't be without it. It is a great development tool and the interfaces editors are only getting better. I'm still learning the software and feel I'm only scratching the surface, but what I am using so far I am utterly impressed.

I might give it a try, sounds great
it is said (in the FAQ) that (optional) one should install Apache, PHP and MySQL before installing the new tool

Do you think that there is a way to establish communication between the new tool and a previously installed
LAMP or XAMP vs installing from scratch each separated elements?

There are some cool new features [download.eclipse.org] in the software in addition to what it featured before the upgrade. Some of these little gems were on my wishlist, so the upgrade was inevitable for me. However, upgrading to this release was not as easy a task as one would hope, I ran into some issues. I highly recommend a new installation. You can export your preferences from the original installation first and then import them to your new install. Relative documentation for others that may be contemplating an upgrade ...
