I'm looking into BBs that I can modify to suit my needs. I came across PunBB [punbb.org] which I'd never heard of before. Have you worked with this Board and can you shed some light on it's performance, flexibility, security, and ease of use?

I haven't seen this one before, but it looks like a re-working of phpBB with valid HTML layout and a simplified look, rather than a completely new BB. It certainly looks interesting, though! I'd love to get some feedback as well...

If you're looking into more minimalist BB's, you could also look at miniBB: [minibb.net...] - I like this one because you can embed it completely into an existing design with a simple php include.

Update - I downloaded and installed PubBB. I must admit my scepticism - especially with a name like PunBB. But the install went smoothly and within 30 minutes I was happily making edits and tweaks to see how it worked. So far, I'm impressed. But the real test will be when I set my users loose on it.

Does punBB serve ads or is it honestly free?
