SMS via PHP

Using the Jabber class

While I was browsing PHP books, I looked at the PHP hacks book
It mentions an iteresting way of generating SMS
using a class knonwed as the Jabber Class

Do you have any experience with it?

I am looking for something that might send thousands of such messages. (and no, I am not involved in SMS spam!)

I'd wait-around a couple of months for the up-coming PHP.NET.
It sounds cool, but really odd and scary!
