Simple, reliable, freesource"Join mailing list" script /app?

can someone please point me towards the most simple, reliable, freesource PHP based "join mailing list" script/app that stores the email address in database for later retrieval

PHPList is a popular open source one, but its feature packed and it might appear confusing.

I have already downloaded the phplist couple of days ago, but it did seem..well as you say sort of confusing, that's why I made this thread.

It's quite elaborate and "complex", at least that's what it seems like to PHP noob like me.

Another thing is mysql databse :( , but than again I will have to face the music (Mysql).. no matter what I pick. Ihave never created MYsql database before. I have experience in creating Access databses so Mysql is VERY new to me .. but will have to work it out somehow

That would be ideal dreamcatcher, as I am already familiar w/ ASP..
but it's a server issue .
