Installing PHP5 Under Windows XP and Apache [webmasterworld.com]
Ok, I've repeated the install steps about a bizillion times. I did find mutiple instances of php.ini in different folders/directories and removed them. Made changes as needed. Researched other install docs and further changes were made but still the scripts fail. The one change that did have an effect on a script was when ¦PHPIniDir "C:/php"¦was changed to ¦PHPIniDir "./"¦. In this scenerio the script ran/performed to the extent of dbase error msg, and mysql compeletly failed. Would starting over compeletly be my only solution or do you have any more tricks up your sleeve?
Thanks to All.
hmmm, not sure
what was the dbase error msg?
when mysql failed what did it do exactly?
I don't think starting over is necessarily going to help but it might be worth a shot. You need to remove everything related to php/mysql/apache/phpmyadmin though.
make sure you really start from scratch. When you get mired in conf/install probs they often get worse even with retrying. Removing everything is the only way to be sure.
I'm in the process of re-installing and did remove all things related to the last effort. I do believe that in all my attemts to make changes, some minor error/ommision caused the problem, and re-tracing my tracks became to exhaustive. Also, I did install php5 with an installer earlier before these posts, and had since removed, then manually installed. I placed files in windows, system32, and wherever it was suggested to do so. A fresh start seems to be in order. I'm following the method contained in your first post link because it's ommitting reference to placing files in any c:\windows\ directories. So far so good!
""Finally up and running"". I guess with all research on this topic and trying everything others recommended with all the different ways they tweaked, changed, moved, copied, etc. system files, it's not surprising things failed for me. I only wish I'd started here first! I also [[benevolent001]] installed 'Apache2Triad' on another computer with little effort and no errors. I conquered the manual install but I'll have to recommend 'Triad' to others who don't need the "hands on" experience.
