Checking a drive's free space

I was wondering if anyone knows how it's possible for PHP (or even bash through PHP) to check a drive's free space?

Maybe disk_free_space [us3.php.net].

A better way I found was using exec("df -l h");

That's not a better way. It takes more CPU time, and you have to parse the result. But it does tell you the percent free, and not just the amount.

Well disk_space_free is a bit funny on Mac. Because Mac puts hard drives under /Volumes, doing disk_space_free("/Volumes/harddrive1") didn't return anything!
