my hoster just warned me that my PHP skripts and modules/extensions need to be thread-safe, if I wanted them to run on an apache2 with mpm-worker module. How do I find out?

Did you ask them? I suspect they may be making this statement in regards to the warning at the top of the Apache2 installation [php.net] page.
