Trouble using php on pws

I used the easy windows install for php after i got my pws installed in win98. I had trouble saving files, but figured that out. Then, I got an error message, and figured out it was cause i needed to have execute clicked. So that was settled. Then I was getting a "The page cannot be displayed" error. So I looked around, and I think here I read about someone who was having the same problem, but did the regedit thing and it worked. I did the regedit thing, rebooted, and it still doesn't work. If I go through with [localhost.....] it gives me that 'the page cannot..' error. If i double click a php file, a blank IE page opens. Does anyone know whats wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, BahamutG!

It's rare to see people using PWS and could very well be the reason you didn't get any action on your request here yet. If indeed you want to continue down this path you may want to read through the PHP Servers-IIS/PWS [php.net] pages. Make sure to review the User Contributed notes on the page as well.

However, and take it for what it's worth, you may want to download and use Apache [httpd.apache.org] as opposed to PWS. You're going to be learning more about web servers the further you progress in your development experiences and it wouldn't hurt to start off using a tested and proven server that will grow with you. Plus, you'll find a lot more support for the Apache web server as opposed to PWS. Just some friendly advice :)

You're not stupid, you just haven't learned it yet. We all go through this stage and anybody that pretends to know everything is about as transparent as you can get. Sure there are frustrations along the way, but the only way to advance is to experience the failures and successes along the way.

You've only posted here at WebmasterWorld twice now. This is a good community with good people. There is an Apache forum [webmasterworld.com] here with an excellent moderator. I encourage you to give it a go :)

So how did you fix it? I have the exact same problem under Windows 98. I've reinstalled PWS(NT Option Pack 4.0), and PHP(4.4.3 Installer). My file name is .php, and my registry entry is .php = c:\php\php.exe. ASP works, ISAPI works, but with php I get "Cannot find server". Maybe I should reformat?
