php help needed dropping a directory and changing a php url

Hi. I'm a newbie to php/mysql, just getting to understand it. I'm trying to tailor some code someone gave me to make some adjustments to the url's of pages produced on the fly but when i have any success, the pages wont work properly (they wont list the content when they load)
Can anyone take a look at the code for me?
ive been at it all day and getting desperate

how about a small bit of code to see if we can figure it out. (small code pieces are fine)

Do you get any error messages? Do you have an idea as to which piece of code is giving you trouble?
