?unable to copy text from PHP page!

trying to copy text from a PHP page is hard.. can't select text accurately

I've just created my first PHP page.. and it's simple and looks as I would want it to.

However I just noticed weird behaviour when I try to copy text. I was unable to select text without the selection jumping and selecting whole other paragraphs.

I could find no comment on this anywhere and wondered if this is a bugbear that people acknowledge but is offset by the benefits of PHP pages. Or is it just the IE6 I'm using?

You can see for yourself.. try to copy a paragraph from eg [glish.com...] (which is not my site :) and suggested and perfect example of CSS)

The behavior you described does occur within my IE6 browser, but not in NN7.1 -- NN allows me to select the text as I expected. And if I double click in IE6, it will select the entire <div>

Text selection, copy / paste are done in your browser client side, nothing to do with PHP which is server side. As for the weird behavior you're describing, it probably has more to do with the way the page is rendered in the browser, although I don't really understand / can't replicate it.

This is an IE bug with absolute positioned DIVs.

Certainly is. I can't believe how bad IE is at rendering standards-based documents. Sure makes it tough for a developer.

I've seen this before, but it has nothing to do with PHP. It has something to do with either improper nesting of your <p> tags, or something wrong with your CSS. I can't find the thread that covered this problem, but my suggestion to fix it is to validate both your html and css, and check for improper nesting.

(just saw Stretch's post, and that may be the problem; although I have seen this happen on site's that do not have any absolute positioning. Can anyone verify this with another source or thread?)

It is annoying but being new to PHP, I'm full of naive enthusiam and so I'll continue to upgrade from my frames and tables towards the nirvana that is csszengarden, which quite insired me yesterday. :)
