PHP 403 Forbidden

Our company website is reporting 403 errors for the PHP webpages when checked with the W3C link validator, although these webpages do display correctly in all browsers.

It states that this needs changing. I am convinced it is a problem with either PHP or the configuration of IIS.

This needs fixing as I think this is affecting our search engine rankings.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
Ben

hi acplus,
welcome to webmasterworld.

other pages then php can be accessed without that error by the w3c validator?

are you browsing the site within the firm or from somewhere else?

Yes other pages can be accessed without the 403 error e.g. html.

Its very strange. Use the W3C validator and see for yourself what the problem is.

Thanks,
Ben

Your "web design services" page (PHP) loads fine for me and the W3C Validator (although it is not valid HTML 4.01 Transitional ;) ).

Yes, this is the point I am trying to make. The webpages load fine, but under the W3C validator they are coming up as 403 forbidden errors, I think this is a problem for some search engines.

THanks,
Ben

I did not get a 403 error, neither did W3C when I tried that. It's working fine through W3C (for me anyway).

The only thing (maybe this is where the confusion lies) is that the code is not valid (i.e. does not adhere to W3C standards). This doesn't mean that people (or search engines) can't see it.

These are the first few lines from the results of the W3C Link Validator:

Code Occurrences What to do
302 1 Usually nothing.
403 33 The link is forbidden! This needs fixing. Usual suspects: a missing index.html or Overview.html, or a missing ACL.
501 1 Could not check this link: method not implemented or scheme not supported.
http://www.example.co.uk/contactus.php
What to do: The link is forbidden! This needs fixing. Usual suspects: a missing index.html or Overview.html, or a missing ACL.

Response status code: 403
Response message: Forbidden
Lines: 36, 154
http://www.example.co.uk/products.php
What to do: The link is forbidden! This needs fixing. Usual suspects: a missing index.html or Overview.html, or a missing ACL.

I cant get my head round this.

Thanks,
Ben

I just visited http//YOUR-URL/contactus.php and it was fine. It also validated through W3C. As far as I can see, the website is fine.

Why would the W3C HTML Validator say this?

If your not getting the errors why would I be getting them?

Thanks,
Ben
