How to recompile PHP?

I wish to enable GD2, XSLT, GZIP support for my server. Could you tell me how to recompile PHP?

I'm a newbie. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. What else would you recommend of adding in this recompile? I plan to add GD2, XSLT, and GZIP support. Anything else worth adding to the DB?
