Is there any image recognition script out there that can help me read text from a jpg image.

Seems like you are attempting Optical Character Recognition (OCR) via server-side tools. I've never been down this road.
Have you tried searching the web for any possibilities based on those keywords, particulary *OCR*? I'm not familiar with any server-side scripting options to perform this task ...
