On the May 1st 2001 Unfair Advantage Book in the section about Open directory is written regarding Altavista:

AltaVista has incorporated ODP as their primary directory on their home page at [altavista.com...] . When conducting a search at AltaVista for a single keyword, they present some matching categories from ODP at the bottom of the search results page. They also have added a "Categories" button at the top of the page which also takes you to their version of ODP.

I thought it was the looksmart one to power AV even because doing a search on AV at the end of search page appears the Looksmart Logo and doing a paralel search on both AV and ODP results are different.
Can someone explain me how does it work?

Thanks.

The book is wrong Wolfy, AV used ODP results for a while, the book is merely out of date. Relationships change fast in this biz due to competition and financial pressures. The publishing/distribution cycle is six months or more, it's not fast enough to keep up with this changing biz. But if the book is still selling well or bringing in sales, why should they care?

You'll always find the up to date current info right here at WmW...

thanks DaveAtIFG,
I knew it was wrong but I wanted a confirm of it from someone. They don't care because they sell a lot of copies but people who don't know these things could easily make errors in their submissions.

thanks again
