How do we ensure an image is displayed?

Anyone know how the graphic gets to be selected so it is displayed in the search result?

e.g. a href="http://search.uk.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?aveenc=1&pg=q&sc=on&q=web+design&kl=XX&what=uk">http://search.uk.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?aveenc=1&pg=q&sc=on&q=web+design&kl=XX&what=uk</a>

Is it the first pic on the page, or submitted specifically?

Any help appreciated.

With a bit of experimenting I sorted out the answer myself. Yes, AV seems to pick up the first picture it comes across as it reads the page.

So, we can have control over that by making the first image how we like, maybe a logo that will look good at AV's display dimensions.

If it doesn't fit in with the site, make it 1 x 1 pixels. AV will resize it and display it when your page comes up.

Do't know though why all sites don't have pics, maybe they need a fresh spider.
