SPAM and Doorway pages

A quick, dumb question

OK,

I kinda need an answer in a hurry, so if you could please answer to this ASAP, I would appreciate.

For example:

[whateverpage.com...]

and

[blabla.com...]

are two domains going to the same ip,
same page, same everything.

1>I believe that is spam.
Two domains to one ip/ html page=spam
Is this a correct assumption?

2>Or, is [blabla.com...] considered a "doorway" page to the other one?

I know this is a stupid question, but I'd appreciate your input, as I am tired and not thinking real clear.

If "same everything" includes duplicate content, then it is spam. Even if you are pointing 2 domains to the same address (for perfectly valid reasons, similar spellings or acronyms, for example) there have been suggestions that this will set off AV's spam sniffer. I have NOT found that to be true for my site, but I don't submit but one anymore --just to be safe.

Duplicates = 2 pages with very similar content. What SE gage as sufficiently dissimilar varies. But - two links pointing to the same page I would bet my bottom dollar will be penalised. Is anyone here tring that!

Not that the question was dumb but while we are on the subject of money - If I had a dollar for every dumb question I posted here, man would I be styling...

It's perfectly legitimate to have two domains names pointed to the same IP. Altavista itself even does this (altavista.com, av.com). Although if you actively submit both they could perceive you as a spammer. From what I've seen Av seems to just delete any duplicate listings it finds leaving the orginal (things like blabla.com and www.blabla.com), but if your aggresively marketing both I wouldn't be suprised if you get blacklisted.

I hope I don't steer the train off the tracks here but let's say you have 2 (or more) domains that all point to the same pages. What are the dangers in the strategy of marketing one to the SEs and then using the other domain names for reciprocal linking and then submitting the links to the SEs and letting them find the other domains themselves? In my mind still a little spammy but more importantly - what would AV think?

Well, I am going to try to take my lemons and make lemonade. I am going to try to make this new domain a doorway page of sorts. I am going to put some different content on the page and then have it pointing to the actual page as a "for more information" type thing. If you all have any suggestions, I would love to hear them right now.

Since someone already decided to print up a bunch of literature with this new domain name, we can't just kill it.

Now where did I put my machete.....

Oil, my project is 5 years old, over that time I've acquired some better domain names and repointed the IP. Since this is a multi-domain project (each region or town with its own domain) I ended up with exactly the situation you describe above. I'm still getting by, but I don't push it hard. BTW, AV still often lists both domains on the same return page.

Oilman - I don't think that would be much different than the www. or no www. issue. I know my sites have received duplicate listing on AV because of different sites linking to the same page in differen ways. All Av seems to be doing about this is dropping 1 of the duplicates if/when they find them.

I've been trying to determine what factors the "spam sniffer" uses to determine that fine line between similar/dissimilar.
