On November 20, content solution provider, OnePage, Inc., announced a multi-year, multimillion dollar agreement with AltaVista in which AltaVista will license OnePage's information extraction and aggregation software for its search portal. With OnePage's technology, AltaVista can build more flexible "crawlers"—the scripts designed to go out and retrieve Web content—to make more efficient use of unstructured Web data.
I knew OnePage rang a bell, I just couldn't place them. They started out like Octopus, page aggregators. Supposedly, they have developed artificial intelligence software for determining content relevance.
The articles say that AV isn't planning to apply this technology to the SERP right away, they're going to use it to integrate partners. This sounds like an ultra-sophisticated targeting mechanism to me. ZDnet article here. [zdnet.com]
