yell.com in the UK

Are there guidelines for ranking well in yell.com as there are for various other engines?

I see forums for all engines and directories except this one.

There are many SE's & D's that you will not find featured.

The main reason is that they are not considered as players. Yell is a pay to play outfit that IMHO provide next to no traffic for the money you spend.

Worth it if they charged £5 per annum, otherwise forget it.

I would tend to disagree with that. Yell.com gets in the region of 150,000 users each day, which is around the 5th or 6th spot in the UK for search related sites. So it isn't a small player.

However, they have something like 2 million business listings (less than Thomson Local) with which sites/businesses have to compete. That's an awful lot of competition for placement.

They charge £119 to upgrade a listing for 12 months, but the standard listings remain free I think. Someone may be able to correct me on that.

I carried out a straw poll of 20 business directors at a conference.
13 first choice was goolge
4 choose yell.com regularly.
What I need to know is how to get highly ranked.
Do rankings rotate?
What does prefered ranking get you?
