Wrong Domain on MSN

301 redirects worked for Google, but not Inktomi

Not sure if this belongs here, or in the PFI or Domain Name forums.

My client has a number of .com domains (all legacy company names)aimed byvthe DNS registrar to the same IP address. There is a 301 redirect on their server to redirect the legacynames.com to the currentname.com. This has worked for Google, the currentname.com is indexed and all the backlinks are under currentname.com. However, it has not worked for Inktomi, and hense MSN. PFI names show up under currentname.com as registered, but naturally indexed pages are still showing up under legacynames.com. How do I get the correct domain to show in Inktomi without losing the naturally indexed pages.

I don't know if this will help you but I still get hits from MSN on subdirectories that haven't existed in 10 years. They keep sending me traffic to stuff that doesn't exist. I only recently redirected this traffic to a valid place that's related.

These are not stale pages. Current pages are indexed, but with the legacyname.com domain name instead of the currentname.com domain name.

Inktomi doesn't process 301's correctly. On some of my pages, I had to cloak so that Slurp gets a 404 and everyone else gets a 301.
